The Trinidad & Tobago National team comprising of 27 athletes, 2 coaches and 1 team manager will be heading to Jamaica on 14th August to 19th August to participate in the 3rd annual CARIFTA Triathlon & Aquathlon Championships. The athletes’ range in age from 11 years to 19 years old. They will be competing in both the triathlon and aquathlon events with several athletes competing in both.
This team was selected using the top athletes from two national events—the National Aquathlon on April 7th and the National Triathlon on June 8th in Tobago.
A team meeting was held one week after the team was selected and national training was outlined. The team has already met for a few training sessions which included a nutritional talk and a brick session. The team will continue to meet on the weekends for group training sessions that will cover multiple things such as improved swim, bike and run performance, increasing athlete fitness and form, reducing transition times, team work for drafting as well as motivational talks with the National Coaches, Aliya Drakes and Derrick Simon.
Coaches Aliya and Derrick are not new to CARIFTA. This is Coach Derrick’s 3rd post as the National Coach for the CARIFTA team and Coach Aliya’s 2nd.
The National Team will be continuing their training every weekend leading up to CARIFTA 2019.
We take this opportunity to thank NLCB and Diproinduca for coming on board and helping sponsor this amazing group of athletes.
